About Oakwood
Oakwood is a family oriented community of 458 single-family homes located on the north edge of Westmont, Illinois in DuPage County. Oakwood Drive is the primary thoroughfare through Oakwood, connecting to Ogden Avenue on the south and 35th Street on the north. Surrounding Oakwood is the Trinity Lakes subdivision in Oak Brook to the north, the Oak Brook Hills Hotel and Resort and Willow Crest Gold Club to the west, and the Hinsdale Country Club to the south. A significant portion of the eastern edge of Oakwood consists of the fifteen acre Lake Charles. This lake is for the exclusive use of Oakwood residents and offers a beach, boating, fishing, and nature walks on the eastern shoreline.
Oakwood residents can easily walk to three parks. Oakwood Park is located in the middle of Oakwood. Its complete playground makes it ideal for small children. Blackhawk Park, on the west edge of Oakwood, has facilities for older children and adults, including a modern basketball park and sand volleyball court. Next to Blackhawk Park is Ty Warner Park, the largest park in Westmont. This park consists of 36 acres of picnic areas, a Splash Pad, two playground areas, ballparks, a sledding hill, beautiful flowerbeds, and paths for walking or jogging.
Westmont's fine schools are easily accessible to Oakwood residents. Both Westmont Junior High School and Westmont Senior High School of Community Unit School District 201 are located in the heart of Oakwood and are within walking distance for all Oakwood children. Many other schools are available either by bus or by private transportation. Most grammar school children from Oakwood attend District 201's Manning Elementary School in downtown Westmont or attend private school at Notre Dame or Holy Trinity.
Shopping, entertainment, and good restaurants abound within a few minutes driving distance of Oakwood. To the north of Oakwood are Oak Brook Shopping Center and Yorktown Shopping Center. Additional shopping and restaurants surround Oakwood in the villages of Westmont, Downers Grove, Oak Brook, Clarendon Hills, and Hinsdale.
Oakwood is within a few miles of interstates I-294, I-88, I-355, and I-55. Residents can also obtain Metra rail transportation to and from Chicago at the Metra rail stations in downtown Westmont and Clarendon Hills.
